Re: Fractal Moon

Your reference to nature not quite matching mathematical models seems, as it were, like putting the cart before the horse. Shouldn't it be the other way around: the models don't quite match nature? I'm going to take a WAG here and suggest that everything invented by humans already exists in some for...

Re: 2001 Monolith found on Mars

Thanks astrolabe, I laughed for about 5 minutes after I read your post! In fact I'm still chuckling as I write this. Thanks for your levity on such a 'oblong' subject. I'm surprised at what Buzz was quoted as saying, after all the indignities from the 'faked moon landing' crowd! Perhaps he was being...

Re: Synchrotron radiation

Again - you guys are the whip at this stuff! Isn't it funny that the 'mad scientists' had to rely on the 'technician' to help interpret their results?! (Sorry, I'm a biomedical engineering technician, myself!) Also, thanks for the historical anecdotes regarding the 'discoverers' of synchrotron radia...

Re: moon, Mars out of reach

Seems to me some of us 'can't see the forest for the trees' here. After all, the staggering number of inventions, innovations, improvements, let alone general raising of the 'collective conciousness' (humanity's fist look back at our 'blue marble' in space), ought to be more than enough reason to co...

Re: Synchrotron radiation

Thanks! You guys are the whip! You are right, my question was a practical one. If I understand your answer, all I need is a polarized lens and a camera to "see' this radiation. I'm assuming that this would be done with a timed exposure since you indicate the sources of this type of emission are...

Synchrotron radiation

What is it about this type of emission that makes it so interesting to astronomers? Could it be seen by an amateur with a 4.5" reflector and a polarized lens of some kind?
