Re: APOD: Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 1300 (2012 Mar 25)

Is a galaxy barred because of another galaxie's gravitational disruption of its original spiral form? Thank you for APoD.

Re: APOD: Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 1073 (2012 Feb 20)

The galaxy's core bar in this picture resembles itself a galaxy. Could it be that core bars are residuals of disrupted rotation planes?

¡VIVA MÉXICO!

The 50,000 deaths due to bad UN XX-century drug regulation are too small to be seen in this beautiful image.

Re: APOD: A Memorable Aurora Over Norway (2011 Dec 05)

Our ancestors surely came up with the idea of something like an atmosphere above their heads, with the Moon, Sun and Stars progressively much farther away, after experiencing such beautiful Aurorae. Of course it's not in the History books.

I think i have a purr-fect count of 89 stars, at the too numerous to count link. This made me remember my parents' answer in Spanish to the eternal child nightsky question. ¿Cuántas estrellas hay? ¡Cincuenta! ¿Solo 50? ¡No! Sin-cuenta: uncountable ;) Cheers to the Kitty link and thanks for the APOD

Is our Galaxy in the remote distance of a spherical universe

Hi there. Theorists have often considered the Universe as a 4th dimensional equivalent to a sphere, wherein enough distance travelled, one would arrive to the same point. I have often wondered, would it be possible then, to see our own Galaxy in the far far distance, as it was billions of years ago?

No doubt I'm barking up the wrong tree, but I can't help interpreting those dirty blue-white features as dust-covered ice nodules / layers. I realize the image is a reprojection with a synthetic sky and color-enhanced, but the colors don't seem so far off. I'd sure like to see an explanation about ...

Re: APOD: NGC 3314: When Galaxies Overlap (2011 Jul 15)

Another (perhaps more useful) question. Should'nt there be a distortion on the image of the farther galaxy, due to gravitational lensing from the galaxy in the middle?

Re: APOD: NGC 3314: When Galaxies Overlap (2011 Jul 15)

What would an inhabitant of the farther galaxy see? The distance to the smaller, face-looking galaxy in the middle is about one-fifth of the way to our own. Our Galaxy, I suppose, is about the same size than the farther galaxy. So the middle galaxy would probably be larger than ours from this inhabi...

Re: The Mysterious Voynich Manuscript (2010 Jan 31)

Judging by the picture and by what Ive read here, I support the calendar theory. The strange and illogical (too many repeated "letters") language may be due to a sort of playful intention in crafting the manuscript. Its not so much a hoax as the result of a ludical artcraft, skilled but al...

Where is the solar panel arm in http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap091130.html to be seen here? It is obviously not one of the 8 long unit pairs.

Re: Cause of Triple Sunrise (APOD 2009 August 4)

http://asterisk.apod.com/download/file.php?id=90 The fact that glass reflections are clear in image 9802 should settle the matter. Andre Geo's photo study pasted above, and Chris Peterson's expositions further establish the double windowpane explanation. I would add the window seems to be perpendic...
