Re: APOD: Crescent Moon Beyond Greek Temple (2023 Feb 28)

is it marble? How can it be the same dusty amber colour as Moon? Or is it a Na illumination? The temple of Poseidon is made from local soft white marble with light blue hues and that is the cause that it appears white in the daylight. The amber color in the photo is obviously caused by the color te...

Re: APOD: Crescent Moon Beyond Greek Temple (2023 Feb 28)

...Are there no fancy instruments that can see it in the middle of the day near the sun (not at an eclipse) in spite of the light? Perhaps there is a Guinness record for this: The highest altitude (angular altitude) for a snapshot of the moon at a given crescent phase, or even a completely new moon...

Good morning from Athens, Greece! In this photo from 19 May 2020, the sun rises through the ancient Greek temple of Godess Athena, the Parthenon, which means "the temple of the virgins". The atmosphere these days is exceptionally hazy due to high concentrations of dust, that originated fro...

Thank you! Once more i would like to point out that if this image did not appear as an APOD, it wouldn't have become viral throughout the planet! I want to thank all the APOD team and Dr Robert Nemiroff personally for this.

Re: APOD: A Distorted Sunrise Eclipse (2019 Dec 28)

Thank you for your kind words, this was the most awesome sunrise i've ever seen. I feel very lucky that i was able to watch and photograph this crescent sun rising under favourable conditions for inferior mirage. I deepy desired that and that is why i chose the specific observing site, totally free ...

Also, i found these two excellent images, attributed to photographer Khalid Al Hammadi, but i can't find more information. The image of the man with the hawk looks like a composition of two, as the background is blurred, but the eclipsed sun is not.

Seems that everyone is on holiday, so am i, in order to observe the December 26, 2019 annular solar eclipse! ! This is a photo of the eclipsed sun rising from the sea, in two pieces, with evident lower mirage distortions. The annular phase of the eclipse was blocked by clouds here in Al Wakrah, Qata...

A magnificent time lapse image of the recent total eclipse from Petr Horálek. Note the planet Venus as a small white spot just to the right of the 10th sun image from below. as it became visible during totality.

By the way, the small tree is of the species Pistacia lentiscus, a very common evergreen Mediterranean bush, same genus with the pistachio nut tree. It grows in the wild here and i don't know if the certain tree was actually planted there, or it was sown by itself.
