bystander -- in regards to a new fundamental theory of particle physics -- is that because of odd behavior of particles based on 3, or do you think they may have encountered particles based on 2 or even 1 ?

Brick??? - Chainsaw??? - I thought i was as blind as two bats, until i looked closer. The "brick" is something attached to the frame and about in the middle you can see through to one of the wheels on the other side. It takes quite a bit of imagination to see what looks like a lazer cannon...

The Apod says that the Lunokhod was designed to operate for 3 months, but roamed around the Moon's surface for 11 months. Just goes to show that the Soviets back then just could not get anything right!

Re: APOD: Lunokhod: Reflections on a Moon Robot (2010 Jun 06

Its a really strange world isn't it? Speaking of memories; I remember just after Sputniks launch, i was playing baseball (or rather trying to)in Elementary School. I was out in right field and there was about a full moon almost overhead and for some reason i looked up at it and all of a sudden this ...

WOW! a Buck Rogers Space Antique. I wonder if Apod or whomever owns it will take it to PBS's Antique Road Show? Should be worth a bundle and its definitely one of a kind. What an unusual Apod.

Did they check the mileage??

According to geckzilla's link, what we are in is 6000' C. So if it wasn't for the solar wind blowing against it----we would be toasted humans!! What a predicament!! Have a sun and keep warm and get radiated --or-- not have a sun and get "welded" together because of the 6000' heat. What a S...

well, its definitly not a blue tortise, but still does not resemble a helmet either. I like the blue -bubblely tortise that even has a blue head.
Maybe it would help if Thor's Hammer was near-by?

Question - - - - If there is enough "force" to break off "chunks" of magnatism and spew them and filiments out of the black hole -- what keeps the expelled magnatism attached to the filiments instead of just becoming a "magnetic lump"?

Re: APOD: Hubble Remix: Active Galaxy NGC 1275 (2010 Jun 04)

The title of the Apod picture of the day is "Active Galaxy NGC 1275" and yet it also says that there are magnet forces holding at least parts of it in place. My question would be -- is the Galaxy waxing or waneing?? It is implied that at the moment parts are being held in place so it would...

Re: APOD: Jupiter from the Stratosphere (2010 Jun 03)

So that means that even though the infared is penetrating the white strip area, we are not seeing any reflections from beneath the white strip area because its too cold for the infared to be reflected back, or, the infared IS working and is telling us that its white under the surface that we normall...

Re: APOD: Jupiter from the Stratosphere (2010 Jun 03)

Here's definite for sure proof that if you want to see a good reflection of yourself - then you just have to buy a good mirror! Apod says that the bright white strip is transparent to infared light and offers us a view below the cloud tops. Well, to me - the white strip looks like cloud tops!! So i ...

What "I" find amazing about this is that there is so much speculation (5 pages so far) about such a short white line in the sky that has an irregular end on it. Its such a short line that either it was like a pebble and burned up in that short a distance, or, it just barely touched the Atm...

If things really looked that colorful up there - there would be a lot of people with sore necks!! Sometimes fiction looks better than truth. Also, shouldn't that be - infared is emitted from well within - instead of infared penetrates well with in? The telescope is picking up what is emitted. The te...

Wait a minute!! You mean its going to cost us $60,000,000 a year just to monitor and do adjusting of travel for a piece of equipment that is already there and paid for? Using equipment back here that is already paid for?

They sure must use a lot of electricity and pay very high wages!!!!
