Re: APOD: Hubble 25th Anniversary: Pillars of... (2015 Jan 0

Is it possible to see any movement over the 25 year interval (a mere instant indeed) at this scale? of the gasses themselves or perspective shift as we float by? my guess is not much. We'll simply have to take a photo every twenty five years for the next several million, and have a pretty amazing ti...

Re: APOD: NGC 602 and Beyond (2013 Jan 13)

these bright stars are all really outside our own galaxy? (understood that the magellanic clouds are relatively near.) are foreground (milky way) stars visible in this image? wow

Re: APOD: The Coldest Brown Dwarf (2011 Aug 30)

if this WISE data starts to indicate that there's way more brown dwarves floating around than previously imagined, could these obscure concentrations of mass begin to account for the perceived missing mass of galaxies (ala "dark matter") ??

Arcturus is considered a K-type "orange" giant. at 4300 K its much hotter than "red" giants which burn at under 3700 K.

Re: Cause of Triple Sunrise (APOD 2009 August 4)

Dang stanman, thats definitely the hotel. [google earth 54.421901,18.583513] if you go back a few years the photos even show the east face of the building, revealing the balconies and certain alcoves where a certain window of questionable panage may be hiding. So who wants to call the hotel and ask ...

Re: Cause of Triple Sunrise (APOD 2009 August 4)

to GREEN. if the other suns ARE "reflections" bouncing out of the glass, they would indeed still be in focus according the camera, because they are just the same image as the actual sun image, plus an extra few millimeters gained within the window. so thats 93, 000, 000 miles and a little ...
