I have seen atmospheric "lensing" or perhaps more appropriately, "reflection" of the sun. Once in 1973 a little after 10:30 at night in late July from 41.5 degrees North I looked northwest and saw a ghostly sun sitting on the horizon. Deep orange, but almost translucent seeming. ...
