Re: APOD assessment poll #8
In May 1995 i was searching for astronomy pictures on one of the Lycos search engines. Google wasn't there yet. It was Lycos or AltaVista that were my main engines, well them and gophers.

Re: Is APOD a blog?
blog = web log.
apod has been a log of interesting photos with explainations and commentary for longer than the term blog was coined making it the vanguard of the frontier, a front-runner of the concept, with a very easy to use calendar index to the entries.

Re: No place like home - APOD 20091118
There is thought that the Moon was formed from a near head on Earth impact with a near Mars size object. I'm not sure if this was a reply to my post about the origins of water ... if that's the intent then let me respond by pointing out that I'm not suggesting that the water was formed at the creat...

Re: No place like home - APOD 20091118
Isn't it true that as planets move though space their elements are stripped off and form a tail? I remember a story about that somewhere. Isn't it very possible then that the moon's water came from earth since the moon would travel through that element tail which would primarily be made up of nitrog...

It would be great to see what the sky look like living on a planet on the outer edge of one of these galaxies towards the center of the interaction.

Diamonds in a Cloudy Sky (8 Aug 2009)
How is it that the moon perfectly eclipses the sun? If the sun were any larger or the moon were any farther away it would seem that a perfect eclipse would never happen. Is this the case? Is there an explanation or discussion regarding this or am I totally off base? http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap09080...
