Re: 2009 April 21 - global warming

What is your opinion on this and the Milankovitch cycles ? Thank you for pointing me to that article. It pretty nicely summarizes the various influences on natural climate change that I have encountered in many different journals, textbooks, and classes over the years. An article that I read in the...

Re: 2009 April 21 - global warming

Try these I'm afraid we'd have to spend some time on these temperature records and we'd still probably not agree. The US weather station network is supposed to be one of the better ones worldwide but its flaws are being revealed. 'Urban heat island' effect is one thing but having temperature record...

Re: 2009 April 21 - global warming

This might be one of those issues where we're not going to agree on very much. The graphic you referenced was developed from instrumental temperature records involving weather monitoring networks such as the USHCN, NOAA, etc. Unfortunately, this record is possibly severely compromised by poor instru...

Re: 2009 April 21 - global warming

Dear Sir, I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide the source for the temperature record that you have cited so that I might knowledgeably craft a reply. Thank you very much. Best regards, - Roy Tucker

downright balmy in Pevek Russia (Northern Siberia above the Arctic Circle) 19dC (66dF) and in Tuktoyaktuk, NWT Canada its a mild 6dC (43dF) also above the arctic circle. Good Sir, It is also true that there is unusually cold weather in Canada and North Dakota. Here in Tucson the weather is cool and...

Re: 2009 April 21 - global warming

Hi Pete, As an "audience" member of this thread, I'd just like to chime in and point out that your stated interest in substantive debate would appear less hypocritical if you used fewer expressions like (various examples) I actually do appreciate your comments and helpful criticisms. I sha...

Re: 2009 April 21 - global warming

It isn't name calling if it is accurate. And I do believe, based on your many posts in this thread, that you are a true pseudoscientist. You accept weakly supported ideas while rejecting well supported ones, as required to maintain a dogmatic belief in something that can't rationally be believed. Y...

The standard slogan of the pseudoscientist. You bet what you want. I'll trust the experts.
Hee hee hee! :) Back to name-calling again. Standard procedure for the intellectually lazy.

Re: 2009 April 21 - global warming

Baliunus started writing about her "belief" that CO 2 was unrelated to atmospheric temperature back in 2001. Nothing about her background suggests she has any basis for this belief. She had done no research of her own, and the subject is completely outside her area of expertise. Her artic...

Re: 2009 April 21 - global warming

To be honest, in a casual conversation I don't feel compelled to reference everything. However, in this case, I just read a report of new work a couple of weeks ago, in Science May 1, 2009) , reporting on work by Pierce and Adams at Carnegie Mellon. I saw a report about a similar study from a Unive...

Re: 2009 April 21 - global warming

I'm still waiting to learn how Sallie Baliunas is "discredited". She's an astrophysicist, what does that have to do with climatology. :? Well, Duh! If variations in solar activity have a major influence on terrestrial climate, maybe it kinda makes sense, huh? At least to rational people i...

Re: 2009 April 21 - global warming

Well, if you're talking about modulation of cosmic rays, I think that theory is getting generally discredited as a significant contributor to climate. Reference, please? :) http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1180849?ln=no Nothing like getting some actual data and observations instead of relying on some h...

Re: 2009 April 21 - global warming

I'm not going to let you dodge the question. Why do we not see in the actual data the equatorial mid-tropospheric warming that all of the computer models predict? I don't know (in part because I don't know the details of the issue). My first assumption would be that the models are inaccurate in thi...

Re: 2009 April 21 - global warming

If the 3mm per year rate is correct and if it continues until 2100, then the sea level since 2000 will rise 11.8", hardly very alarming and definitely not evidence that CO2 is responsible. That,s a figure which is getting larger.. And larger. until we get runaway methane feast. In England.. ev...
