I was in Colorado at that time and took this picture from just east of Bailey. It was a seriously impressive storm. I've done no image manipulation other than cropping. My first thought was toasted marshmallow, but I also thought pillow. Seeing the different filter versions, it looks like it has a pillow inside the outer parts.
So I vote for Pillowcase Nebula.

I love seeing multiwavelength composites of interesting things that span quite a large part of the electromagnetic spectrum! However, I think this APOD would have been better if it showed the optical and the x-ray image was a mouseover, this would make comparion easier. That is a good idea, thanks!...

Aviatress, I believe you owe Bud Kuenzli a public apology in this forum. Given the depth and multitude of his aurora photos, he has no reason to copy a photo of aurora from a desktop wallpaper file.
