JohnD you beat me to the question. At first glance I thought the pic was a fake. Then I thought the reason might be what bystander said, that the glow is from the areas that are not eclipsed. It is possible that a longer exposure was used and that picked up the sunlight shining off the mountains in ...

And anything named "digg it" is prima facie cheesy and an offense to the eye. It looks like the first step down the slippery slope into purposeless promotion and a cluttered web site. Wow... BBCNews.com uses digg it. Other sites either use it or are at least linked to it from the Digg It ...

For what it's worth I would simply like to state my opinion: I like both APOD and the forum very much but the forum contains some of the biggest complainers I have ever seen. From ranting about APOD pics being too terrestrial to now complaining about 'digg' buttons. Don't you think that some of you ...

Um... did you move from the Norther hemisphere to the Southern hemisphere? If so... the constellations will seem to be a 'little' different.

If the universe were large enough and we could see far enough :?: we would see the original event at that point :?: I am no scientist but as I understand it you would not be able to see the light but you may be able to see the 'heat'. This heat left over from the big bang shows up in the form of mi...

My imagination likes to tell me that, at night, you could look up at the sky and see a gorgeous multicolored haze. When I look at images online of the Orion Nebula I see deep reds and some oranges. However when I look at it through a scope, I see a white cotton ball. No matter that I stand in New J...

No way are they the same. You can see the silhouette of two 'hills' in the Vista image with a valley in the middle but there is only one hill (left) in the APOD. This isn't even the same lake or at least it isn't taken from the same place. Second the APOD image is a wider angle shot than the Vista o...
