Re: APOD: Horsehead: A Wider View (2013 May 03)

Here's the wider view I've got. It does look a little pink in seeing more of the horse. Must be the way the light is reflecting in the wider view. The horse shoes do look a little thick at the bottom of the nebulegs. InfraPink? (Ed will want to know her IP address.) All I can say is to repeat what ...

Re: APOD: The Horsehead Nebula in Infrared... (2013 Apr 22)

Beautiful IR detail of one of my favorite space objects. I still see the horse head and wonder at the "gaseous" detail. Contrasting tail of recognition… I was driving the other day and thought I saw one of my neighbors walking down the street so I commenced to blow my horn and wave only to...

Re: Poetry - please?

Poetry is in the mind of the beholder. Be it Greek or otherwise. This isn’t exactly poetry in the classical sense but it's positive reinforcement about getting older… which even you, Mister Beyond, are doing… as we speak... One thing I’ve noticed is that as we age we appear to become smarter… which ...

Re: Poetry - please?

“…[taking] the road less traveled by” brought to mind a novel by Arthur C. Clarke, Rendezvous with Rama , wherein a group of human explorers intercepted an alien starship and upon landing on it encountered a door/hatch with a wheel. After futile attempts trying to open the door by turning the wheel ...

Re: APOD: Earth at Twilight (2013 Apr 06)

Technology’s made us keenly aware of certain aspects of our planet’s health. Seems the most vocal tend to focus on the negative. I expect us to fix things when they’re broken. I expect the Earth to do the same. ISS has a pretty cool vantage point. It’s not so pale and frail looking up close. Me… I’m...

K1NS, you are right on topic. Mostly the night sky is calming for me… doesn’t usually change much. For me, the cosmic violence is overshadowed by its apparent stability from our spaceship’s distance. Outer space does make me think. I see Art in the sky… mostly aesthetic thoughts… then there’s the mu...

Neufer's post is an apropos reflection. Speaking of reflections... A horse is a horse unless it's something else. In eighth grade art class, I started a plaster sculpture modeling the Blue Horse logo. I had to change it to a ram head when I carved the ears too short.

I'm very impressed by the two people who've been courageous enough to post poems they have written themselves. I only write poetry (not very good poetry...) when I'm seriously unhappy. The thing is, when I go back to read the poems, I can't remember just what the unhappiness was that triggered the ...
