G'day, David, It's my understanding that something had to cast a shadow so that square B would actually be darker, although our mind's eye would see it as remaining 'white', so why not a green cylinder? I got some paper and did the same with the APOD illustration by holding them to the screen and masking ever...

It appears that the illusion is trying to tell me that a black square of the 'chess board' is the same colour as a white square. Despite the shadow of the green cylinder, I still think that the colour of square A is differ...

G'day, As a rank amateur who likes to look at NASA's "pretty pictures", I must ask if the object at 7pm to the Sun is a comet, and if it might be Comet Holmes? Cheers, Carl

The artist's view shows the sun in the background. Pictures I've seen of the sun as seen from Pluto show a small dot not much bigger than a star as seen from Earth. The sun in this picture as seen from Eris is much bigger. Which is correct?
