You beat me to it Andy, I see the dog too. To me, it is also "sitting".Andy Snow wrote:You call it a mountain, but I swear I see the profile of a pointy-nosed dog in a cloak. As long as we are making stuff up, that's my contribution. BTW, I love APOD. Keep up the great work.

Re: APOD: An Anomalous SETI Signal (2011 Feb 06)
Seti is bogus. Radio signals blend in with the background radiation "noise" after 1.5 to 2 light years distance. This means that nobody is watching "LUCY", or listening to old radio shows, even in the Proxima Centauri system. So ANY intelligent radio signals from even nearby star...

Re: APOD: Gibbous Europa (2011 Jan 30)
Here's my problem with our current space program. We've already demonstrated that we can send a spacecraft to anywhere in the Solar System. We're talking about yet another trip to Europa and Jupiter, to a near-Earth astroid, building a moon base, and a manned flight to Mars. To what purpose? Suppos...

Also reminds me of a Mandelbrot set, or actually the Julia Set as it is more spiral.

Re: APOD: Phobos South Pole from Mars Express (2011 Jan 24)
I say we start a "SAVE PHOBOS" club. We collect money starting now, then when we go there we strap on rockets to boost its speed! Over many times of doing that, (and this is why I suggest starting now, because it will cost a lot to do it by the time we get there), it will climb to a higher...

Another observation. It reminds me of Magnetic lines. If you took 20 small disk magnets, put them under a piece of paper, threw filings on them, I bet you would see a similar structure. Filings would gather in-between and along the magnetic lines causing "clumping"-like structures. The loo...

I disagree with the non-random distribution conclusion of the Article. I include two pictures, of a Tangent function. The Straight Tangent is uniform, the Changed tangent had RANDOM functions inserted so angles change, just like a Universe in MOTION, and it shows very similar structures to the pictu...

Too much science fiction in the science these days.
I know...I know... "today's science fiction is tomorrow's science fact". But really the only Alternate Universe is of the imaginary kind! It is a delusion of "wishful thinking". My opinion.

Second "ripple" from the right looks like a BOB HOPE caricature in profile.
First ripple looks like the top of an alligator's head.
The whole thing reminds me of the Fox Fur Nebula.

On Dec,21, 2012 the sun is supposed to cross the galactic equator. And thus, Doomsday! Supposed by whom? Certainly not by anyone with the least bit real knowledge of astronomy. The IAU defines a "galactic coordinate system", according to which the galactic equatorial plane by definition p...
