I am thinking it was a smaller galaxy with a merger...now settling down...the older stars are yellow and in the center area, right? Then new younger stars and star formation kind of "homogenized the mix"...the greater concentration of gravity was buttressed in the ring...you can still see ...

What a great composite picture! But what is the blue oval-shaped ring in the left upper half of the picture? Hydrogen, oxygen, or sulfur? Generally Blue... is Oxygen in this type image...Sulfur is Yellow, and Hydrogen is Red... I don't know if that changes with the Broadband RGB blended though... :...

Really nice, and eerie image... I found it interesting to see Moons of Jupiter...as I have taken pictures of Jupiter, but not enough exposure to get the moons...at least with my Camcorder.

I live in a mobile home park. Lots of yard lights.
I live a bit out of town, but still to the north are the city lights.

I still get images of M51... from the Driveway...

But, yes...could be better... but then we would all be mugged by the druggie neighbors...

It appears to be common in the coma cluster. Hydrogen is being stripped off by the intergalactic medium, leaving galaxies deficient... this galaxy has a high relative velocity...7,560 km/s, which probably does not help...

Many galaxies in the vicinity look in similar condition.

Maybe it is another Whirlpool galaxy? This looks nothing like M51...at all...it is not the perspective. As a simulation, or a representation, it is a "CROPPED" view...with much missing. I can see some similarity in the "forked" dust lanes at the bottom of this simulation...but th...
