Re: APOD: An Anomalous SETI Signal (2011 Feb 06)

Seti is bogus. Radio signals blend in with the background radiation "noise" after 1.5 to 2 light years distance. This means that nobody is watching "LUCY", or listening to old radio shows, even in the Proxima Centauri system. So ANY intelligent radio signals from even nearby sta...

I don't like it that much. It's messy and there isn't really anything fascinating in it.

Re: Atlantis to Orbit (2010 Jan 17)

fatcitymax, one thing you have managed to show at least, is that there's lots of ignorance about what we get out of space research. Everything we do there gives us back a lot of useful knowledge that we can use right here on earth. The money put into it is well spend, and leads to knowledge that ben...

Re: How can The Asterisk be improved?

My opinions for improvements: - Don't merge threads. It doesn't help anyone. Most of the time it only creates confusion, because people don't know where the thread went, and because the two subjects that the moderator thought were the same, are not. It's too subjective, so it just messes up things, ...

Re: Why isn't APOD on Wikio?

I don't see what importance wikio has.

It looks like digg, but less popular, but with more advertisement, and entries created by staff, instead of by users.

I don't see much value of the site.

Re: APOD Wallpaper

What I am suggesting is the option to quit right after changing the wallpaper. The programmer don't need to make any assumptions for that.

Most people do turn their computers off daily.

(and it's no better or worse for your hardware to be on 24/7. It's made to handle it either way)

proper rss feed implementation for apod please

I now know that there is an official apod rss feed. (the other thread is locked though, so I have to ask these new requests in a new thread). On the apod page, a line needs to be put in the html header, that specifies the location of the rss. That way, and icon will appear in the url bar, and people...

Re: APOD Wallpaper

I wish these programs would have an option, where they just quit right after changing the wallpaper. There is no reason for them to be constantly running. If it's just added to the windows startup, it can just update the wallpaper, when the computer is started, and then quit. Unless your computer is...

Re: The COLBERT & ISS Over Earth (APOD 2009 October 5)

Why were these two threads merged?

That makes it completely unreadable, and nothing makes sense.

The moderation here is horrible! How could anyone think it was a good idea to merge them?

Print it and fold the paper so the two squares touch!

That should be the easiest and most convincing way for you.

Re: 4 October 2009 Same Colour Illusion

I suggest you print the picture, cut out the two squares, or fold the paper, so you can put the two squares next to each other. The square with the letter A is the exact same color and shade as the square with the letter B. They appear different, because of the different surrounding colors/shades, a...

rss feed for apod please

It's time APOD catches up and makes an rss feed for the APOD page.

There are people who've made such, but wouldn't it be prefereable with an official one, actually from APOD, guaranteed to be correct?

If you people took the time and actually read what people wrote, you would see that it's clear that people did indeed read the artists comment, and that it just doesn't explain anything that makes it plausible. I don't see how this image by Wally Pacholka can be a single, unedited exposure. I would...

I doubt that it is real! I understand how the dark cave could avoid having trails, by being briefly lit during the long exposure. However, 5 things about this picture make me suspicious. 1 - I am sure the cave would have been lit enough from moon and starlight, that it would have shown without any f...

It's making it difficult to follow the line of conversation, aside from that, who cares about a couple of duplicate threads when 90% of threads are spam anyway? ;) cheers! Re: A complaint about complaints

I would like to complain about people who think that just because something is free, you should never complain about it, but just love sky high, no matter what, or stay away. Also these people tend to just have to read the complaint threats, even though they seem to bother them so much. They fail to...

It would take the s...
