theory of everything.

Has anyone heard of A. Garrett Lisi and his theory of everything? I do not pretend to understand much of it, but from what I have read and comprehended, it really sounds very interesting. Anyone else have any thoughts or have studied it?

Radiometric dating

Since the development of radiometric dating in 1958, there has been numerous atomic test thoughout the world. Am I correct in thinking that these atomic test would skew this testing method. Afterall, radiometric dating requires that cosmic rays perform a nuclear reaction in our atmosphere and hence ...

light

When I use a hose for water, when the source is cut off, so is the stream of water. What does light use as an energy source once it is cut off?

Light

When someone turns off a flashlight, does the light that has been sent continue to go out into space? E.G. When a star no longer exist, do we continue to see the star millions of years later, assuming it was millions of light years away?
Thank you for the consideration.

Hey Guys,

I am familiar with the theory of relativity, and time displacement(not that I understand how it works) but my question was, Will I catch the ball?(If going the speed of light?

speed of light

Hello guys and gals, I'm not a mathematician, but in reviewing Einstein's theory that if you go the speed of light,(or close to it), then 1 year would pass for you, and 30,000 for your twin brother on earth(or something like that). If this is true, then I have a paradox of sorts. Let's say that I am...

Hello Nomystics, I believe you don't understand the question. It is not metaphysical nor philisophical nor even religious in nature. It is scientific. Why does the galaxies spin in ANY direction, north, south, east, west, whatever u like. If it is gravity, then explain. If black holes, explain. If b...

I apologize to everyone for my clarity in this topic. I will try to get my point across better this time. I am not concerned in whether or not the galaxies spin north or south, clockwise or not. My point is that with hurricanes they turn clockwise or counter clockwise because of the poles of the EAR...

I believe that you are on to something BMAone23, however, I equate the black hole as in an analogy to a sink full of water, when the plug is pulled, the water turns either counter or clockwise in the "hole". But what makes it turn one way as oppose to the other? It is not the hole itself i...

I agree with the assessment that it depends on one's perspective as to which way that a galaxy is spinning, however, this does not attempt to answer the question of why it spins in a particular direction. I believe that if we could find this out then we will understand more about our universe. The r...

spiral galaxies

In viewing galaxies on APOD, I have noticed that the galaxies turn both clockwise and counter clockwise in their spiral. Is there a specific reason for which way a galaxy is turning? Hurricanes on earth move clockwise in the northern hemisphere while in the southern they turn counter clockwise. Ther...
