It might depend on if you have DSL or not. It is a very large file and may take time to download. I have T1 access and it still takes 30 seconds to completely download. Thanks for responding BMAONE23. It is appreciated. I think it may be some problem with that particular movie and my AOL Media Play...

Orange Sun Oozing (APOD 22 May 2007)

I cannot get the movie to run. When I click on the AVI version my AOL Media Player small screen comes up and then the words Real Player appear on it, but I the cannot get any further and everytime I've tried so far my internet connection crashes. If I click on the Quick Time version my AOL Media Pla...

Re: a picture of the day site with science topics

David, Here's a site that has a photo of the day, and they are interesting too. I just wandered on to this site today, and it has lots to offer. http://www.thunderbolts.info/tpod/00current.htm Thanks for that kovil. It is a new site to me. It does look interesting, so I have now bookmarked it. :)

I did not know that either, so I tried it and it certainly works. As a result though I am now confused, as the explanation to the APOD of March 24th 2007 states the picture was "recorded on March 20" and thus by implication (and the subject matter) that was March 20th 2007. The date it was...

Thanks kovil for your response, from which I quote “Also try clicking on the blue words. Now it is true, not all subjects are interesting to all people, so dismay not, something of interest will come along shortly”. I do click on virtually all of “the blue words” in APOD’s to find out more, despite ...

Thanks for your response Andy.

I also tried fiddling with the buttons, but I remained totally baffled as to what I was seeing! I did however try red/blue glasses and the resulting 3D effect was very good.

A Higher Dimensional Universe? (APOD 18 Mar 2007)

I used to look forward each day to seeing an Astronomy Picture of the Day. Increasingly however it is becoming an Astronomy Movie of the Day, but I would prefer that APOD's are a single selected image (with a link if needed to a movie for those who want to see/know more). I also think that the APOD ...

Talking about how stunning and/or pretty APOD images can be I wonder if the Forum Members have ever tried inverting the colours of images. The results can be even more amazing. In order to do it the images seem to need to be copied and then pasted. Then simply highlighting the image as if you were g...

Hi bystander.

Could one of the following be the one you are after? Even if not (which I suspect is likely to be the case) they are still very pretty flower-like images. :)

APOD Feb 6 2007. Confusing information.

The image used for the APOD and an accompanying caption in the SOHO website are brought up when clicking on the "above image" and "this dramatic image" links in the APOD explanation. The caption is however very confusing, unless I'm missing something! Does anybody know the correc...

I never did see the comet, which is a pity as it is an amazing sight judged by the images I've seen. One thing I've noticed is that it seems to have a very curved tail. Is such a marked curve normal?

As an APOD is a Picture of the day, not a Movie, why cannot there be a link to some still frames if a movie is used as an APOD? Thanks BMAONE23 for your very helpful reply. The M78 image in the Messier Objects link does indicate that M78 in the APOD image is the pale blue nebulous area, whilst NGC 2071 is that in the upper left as stated in the APOD explanation. 'Reflection Nebulas in Orion' (APOD 10 Oct 2006 )

In the explanation to the APOD it states that NGC 2071 is at the upper left of the image. However, whilst looking up more information about NGC 2071 and M78 in several sources, it seems that NGC 2071 might be the pale blue area in the lower left of the image, though I am unsure. I would be grateful ...
