Saturn's Rings from the Other Side (APOD 09 Jun 2008)

Re the APOD of June 9 2008 'Saturn's Rings from the Other Side' http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap080609.html It's a very nice image but the full image that is brought up when clicking a cursor over the APOD (or through the above picture link in the explanation to the APOD) is even better. Even tho...

Re: Why repeat APODs?

I have been looking at the APOD for many years now and have no problem with images being shown again. There will also be viewers that have never seen them. I think good images are worth repeating.

Nothing here in Yorkshire, England. It was well overcast last night and raining this morning. It's a great shame as we've just had a string of cold clear nights. It will have to be 2015 then! :) Yes it was just typical that it was cloudy for the eclipse night here in West Yorkshire! It also a...

Shouldn't the diameter be twelve light years? The light will have traveled six light years in each direction from the star since six years ago. Unless the picture is three years old - it doesn't say - but it usually says the picture is old when that's the case. Cool picture. Looks like fur! The ima...

Halloween and the Ghost Head Nebula (APOD 31 Oct 2007)

The "above-pictured Ghost Head Nebula" link in the explanation brings up image PIA04226 in the JPL Photojournal website. In the information to PIA04226 it states that image was produced from 3 images taken on March 28 2000. However, elsewhere in the Photojournal website it states that PIA0...

Re: Too 3-D

The two images are too far apart to be seen as one clearly (using 3-D glasses), at least for me. The 3D effect did work for me using red/blue glasses but it was not one of the best 3D images that I've seen on an APOD as there seemed to be too much red to the left. However, on clicking Patrick Vantu...

I'm still unsure which is R136. However, a little to the left of center there is a bright star with image spikes (presumably a foreground star) and immediately to its left is what looks like a small cluster of bright stars. On using the zoom facility that group then looks much more impressive and so...

'3D Full Moon' (APOD 02 June 2007)

Using red and blue glasses the 3D effect of this APOD is superb. It is probably the best such 3D effect I've ever seen. Thanks to Laurent Laveder for an excellent APOD. :D
