Re: NGC 1333 Stardust (APOD 2009 April 18)

Just in case it has not been spotted there is a clerical error in the explanation to this APOD (at least there was up to when I posted this!). Part of a line states "estimated distance of NGC 1313". The last part should read NGC 1333. Part of the text in the line is a link to information ...

Re: Star Trails Over CFHT (2009 April 13)

In the information with the movie in the CFHT website it indicates that there was some accompanying music, but if there was I could not hear any. I just wonder if anybody else could not hear it. If others could hear it then it would seem that my computer flash component may be missing something, bu...

Re: Martian Dunes and the Shadow of Opportunity (2009 March

In the explanation to the APOD it states "Opportunity should arrive at Endeavor crater in about two years". Through one of the links it states the distance it needs to drive is about seven miles. What a nice pace of life. No rush, just a nice steady progress to its target. :) Opportunity a...

Re: Seahorse of the Large Magellanic Cloud (2009 March 23)

I find it amazing that this image taken from the Hubble Space Telescope on August 10 2008 was released the next day! Well done to all involved. :) It may be available already, but if not perhaps it may not be long before we can start to see images from future observatories in space in 'real time' or...

Re: Fermi's Gamma-Ray Sky (21/March/2009)

I thought the movement path of the Sun from August 4th 2008 to October 30th 2008 is fascinating. It (and thus we on Earth) moved a long way in that period! Well its looks a long way to me even though it may be a tiny movement in astronomical distances. :)

Re: Haute Provence Star Trails (2009 March 14)

The line in the explanation to this APOD that states "Brilliant planet Venus makes the short bright trail at the lower right, while trails of stars in the end near the lower right observatory dome." seems to have something missing! :) I've noticed that that line has been amended and now r...

Re: Lunar X (2009 March 11)

In looking for the lunar X in this picture I noticed that there seem to be two different X's shown. The one discussed in the text seems to be the one on the left side along the terminator. But there is another much larger but fainter X on the right side of the picture formed by light colored criss ...

Thanks neufer and apodman.

Yes, "antitail" just does not seem right when reading it. I think anti-tail is better, though neither form really feels right. :)

Re: Lulin and Galaxies (2009 March 7)

Thanks neufer. From those two APODs it would seem that the tail in the APOD of March 7 2009 is not an antitail that I thought it would likely be. I also learned from the APOD of April 22 2004 that it is known as "an anti-tail or anomalous tail". I now wonder what is the correct usage. Is i...

Re: Barnard's Loop (2009 Feburary 24)

If the Horsehead Nebula had not been mentioned in the APOD title and the explanation I would not have realised it was there! It just goes to show how small (relatively speaking) astronomical objects can be when they are seen in the context of the area that they appear in. :)

I have an apology to make concerning my query about the date when the iamge was taken. For whatever reason I semed to have missed the "this picture, taken from Italy last Friday" in the explanation to the APOD. That makes the date January 30th, which seems much more likley than the Februar...

Sorry but I've no idea how that answers or helps with my query. Your post just seems totally pointless and I can't help but wonder why you made it. :( I didn't mean to offend, David. Re: The anti-tail (APOD 2009 February 2)

I am confused as to the date when the image was taken. The second 'Comet Lulin' hyperlink in the explanation brought up a page in the Sky & Telescope website. That page had the image used as the APOD and it was said to have been taken on February 2nd (presumably 2009). How does an image get to ...

I think the Solargraph is a fascinating 'image' (and also the others that I saw through links from the APOD). So brilliantly simple a concept (though I would never have thought of it) and so long to wait to see what the results were. Excellent. 8)

Re: Celestial "Still" Life? (2009 January 14)

I am having trouble identifying which is NGC 2170 in this APOD. For example the APOD of March 3 2005 seems to indicate that it is the sma...

Re: Redshift - Motion or gravity? (APOD Jan-04, 2009)

Just in case anybody has not noticed, if you click on the APOD image in question it brings up a 2 framed image of which the APOD seems to be one of them. Not that I really know though what it all means in either of the frames and the numerous links in the APOD. :)
