What I see is not a star becoming a white dwarf but a solar system in the intermediate stage of formation. Energy from the formation is transforming into matter in the two opposing jets that then gravitationally twist around the rotating system and form dust in the star's ecliptic outside the region...

Fission of Eta Carinae?

Is it possible that that the mass of Eta Carinae is vibrating back and forth between its rotational axis and its ecliptic? Might it fission into two stars? Is man observing a slice of a phenomenon that has been encountered at an immensely differently scale?
