Re: Astronomically Bad Jokes (Or good)

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2-6 years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. I thought that most isotopes of Governmentium decayed into Lobbyiestum.I believe that Lobbyiestum acually co...

Is it just me, or does anyone else see a huge 'X' across the face? And not as broad or prominent, but a vertical line as well, making it into an asterisk? Ahh, you have discovered our logo, not yet complete. It's a part of our awareness program to generate interest in the forum. Once it's complete,...

can you say in general or more specifically that most of the cratering we see on the rocky planets and moons throughout the solar system occured over a short period of time? do they all have that in common? ~~~~ If you're theororizing, I'd venture much of it concerns the perspective from which one ...

The length of the (Debussy) rays is remarkable. I'd almost bet they represent fractures rather than ejecta. Will be interesting to find if Mercury was ever in a 'brittle' state.

Re: APOD: North America and the Pelican (2010 Dec 18)

Seriously, it's worth keeping in mind that most of these famous nebulas were named based on their visual appearance through an eyepiece, or from their appearance on early film images, which were B&W, fairly low resolution, and low dynamic range. Many of these objects require quite a bit more im...

I couldnt see a pelican only North America. Glad you brought that up, Lenka. I've always thought the Pelican looked more like a pterodactyl with that 'monohorned' skull feature. Or, as today's version has been monikered, a 'pterosaur'. (Those IAU freaks will apparently stop at nothing! - right, Ptl...
