Re: APOD: Saturn's Moon Pan from Cassini (2017 Mar 13)
Does the "slab" on Pan have fewer craters than the main body of the moon?

Re: APOD: Dwarf Planet Ceres (2016 Feb 04)
I know that a lot of Mars atmosphere drifted off into space, and some chemically combined on the surface. How big (how much gravity) does a planet have to be (have) to retain an reasonably (capable of sustaining life) mixed atmosphere? Earth's size works well for us, but is there a lower limit? Obvi...

Re: APOD: Star Colors and Pinyon Pine (2015 Dec 24)
Would it be more precise to say that the nuclear reactions in the various stars determine their temperatures and thus their individual colors? And yes, I'm far out of my area of expertise in asking this!
Thanks, and have a very merry christmas all.

I know there are dimensions of several features, but can a scale or resolution be provided? I'm interested in the size of the smallest objects visible. Thanks.

It's interesting that many of the larger rocks are sticking out of the ground - vertically. That position is unusual in my experience looking at most disturbed and undisturbed sites on earth. I would expect the high winds (or marsquakes - if Mars has quakes) on Mars to cause the rocks to fall to a l...

Re: APOD: 50 Miles on Pluto (2015 Jul 16)
My understanding is that Jupiter forces many objects to be diverted inwards, towards Mars, Earth, Venus and Mercury. Since Pluto is not affected by Jupiters gravity forcing objects towards Pluto, would the rate of cratering on Pluto be significantly less than that observed on the inner (rocky) plane...

Interesting that the rings are not quite in the plane of the camera. On the right side of the photos the rings show up as two "white" lines - where the the full arc of the rings is visible, whereas on the left, the planet obscures the rings behind the planetallowing only the near half of t...

This may be of interest to some. Note that this is qouted from a different era. From "The Book of Woodcraft and Indian Lore" published in `1929 by Ernest Thompson Seton: "PLEIADES AS A TEST OF EYESIGHT This star group has always been considered a good test of eyesight. I once asked a ...

The comments on the vertical exaggeration are interesting to me. As a civil engineer, all of the road designs we do (profile views) are exaggerated 10 times vertically to allow us to see very flat slopes. The use of vertical exaggeration is a well respected means of viewing topography for watershed ...

Aurora from Space ?
Anyone know what exposure time was used? The earth image looks slightly streaked, as if a long exposure time was used.
Thanks
