But I do have a question re: these types of images - that is the type of image that gets APOD readers throwing guesses out there as to causes for things seen in images. Is there ever a definite answer/follow up to the questions posed by these images? I know there ...

Or... or you could use a search engine of your choice and type in something like "labeled Orion images", or whatever, and see what hits get returned. (I'd do it, but I'm too lazy.....) But that is just one way to get what you're asking for. :mrgreen: Excellent image, today's , btw..... 8)

I was sorta thinking the same thing. While the description is accurate and informative, the images are just a bit too symmetric - IMESHO.... 8)

Someone should print this off as a poster.... I actually was one of several winners in an online contest, and received an 18" x 36" poster of the 'sister image' to this. It is gorgeous!!! I have it hanging right above my desk where I can look (read: gaze longingly) at it every day. 8) P.S...

Does anyone else wonder why the effect is only seen on two of the light pillars? Kalvin touched on it, when s/he said, "not all lights are causing creating this effect". It seems that whatever the cause, it's rather 'localized'.

And to my very untrained eye, I still think there is some believablity to the whole 'moon illusion' optical illusion thin...
