The galactic center lies in Sagittarius which is just now, along with the galactic center, beginning to move behind the sun. The GLIMPSE swath of the galactic plane sits in the constellation NORMA which is near Scorpio. This has already passed the sun by. So although they are close together, I don't...

This is one of Harry's links. http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap040411.html I have a couple of questions about this image. 1) Is the single small bright spot in the exact center of the image the galactic center or is it the two larger but slightly less luminous patches slightly to the right of cent...

Harry, You sure are great for spawning discussions. :D . Just a curiosity on the Egg subject though: Bird eggs are hard shelled and require an incubation period to hatch. If the egg gets cold, the embryo will perish. If the bird egg came first, who laid it and who incubated it? If the bird was creat...

DECEMBER MOON MEETS EVENING STAR
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap051209.html Did you know that if you knew where to look you could see venus during the day time. I found it easily on December 4th at about 2 pm due to its close proximity to the moon. I was also able to locate it at 3:30 pm on Dec 6th, 7th, and 8th. I guess Venus ...

since the fall occurs over the span of millions of years it would probably go unnoticed by the masses during the individual lifetime. Those planetary systems that were near to the center would be subject to such a violent environment that life would probably be non existant long before the end came.

I would imagine that If you were on a planet within the sphere of influence of the explosion that caused the Crab Nebula, you might be in a lot of trouble right now, If you survived. If you were in a system that was outside the bubble but close, the visible light would be (Slightly to moderately) di...

I know that the expanding universe theory is based upon the fact that some galaxies are red shifted in the spectrum (doppler effect) causing us to perceive them as moving away from us, while those shifting into the blue end of the spectrum are percieved as moving towards us. The further we see into ...
