Re: APOD: First Horizon-Scale Image of a Black... (2019 Apr 11)
Nitpicker, not to bust bubbles but 'fake news' is an exploitation of the lowest common denominator. Try harder to rise above it, my friend. Martin, you have incorrectly attributed the words of "Confused" to me, by mangling the quote tags. It might be best to ease off on the condescension,...

Re: APOD: First Horizon-Scale Image of a Black... (2019 Apr 11)
That's not how the term is generally used. Computational science usually refers to simulations. To replacing physical experiments with computational models. Not to using computers to analyze physical data. LoL, do you also go by the name of Nitpicker? My answer was sufficient as is. How about that ...

Re: APOD: First Horizon-Scale Image of a Black... (2019 Apr 11)
This isn't really computational science, which centers around models and simulations. This is computational data analysis. (That doesn't detract from the algorithm development, but those are different things.) So you're saying computational data analysis is not a computational science? That's not h...

Re: APOD: First Horizon-Scale Image of a Black... (2019 Apr 11)
It’s claimed the telescope array has enough resolution to resolve writing on a coin at the distance between New York and Los Angeles. That’s crazy. I wonder how they collimated such a device. Awesome work. They will have a career in resolving other objects out there. Wonder no more. The answer is a...

Re: APOD: First Horizon-Scale Image of a Black... (2019 Apr 11)
The thing I don't hear anyone talking about is why they had to get a black hole from more than 50 million light-years. Why can't they get an image of the (or a) black hole in our galaxy? If astronomers are unable to get an image of a black hole in our galaxy then how can they be sure that the image...

By practicing Yoga people try to stop the mind from thinking but it is impossible. The goal of life is not to become unconscious but to become super-conscious.

Re: APOD: Where Your Elements Came From (2017 Oct 24)
That is the worst possible reason. A logical fallacy of the highest order. I call it the Billiard Ball Fallacy: the belief that the Universe must work across all its scales in the same way that we evolved to sense and understand the tiny little bit we can see. In fact, when we look beyond our prima...

Re: APOD: When Black Holes Collide (2015 Oct 20)
What I found rather interesting were the stages that the smaller black hole went through in it's death spiral. At a couple points it seemed to temporarily split into two separate black holes. Trying to mind experiment this but I am falling short of the manifestation of a third gravity well.

Re: APOD: Gamma Rays from Galactic Center Dark... (2014 Mar
All assumptions introduce possibilities for error; if an assumption does not improve the accuracy of a theory, its only effect is to increase the probability that the overall theory is wrong. Newton's idea of light particles seemed simpler than Christiaan Huygens's idea of waves, so many favored it;...

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I cannot view what you have linked to -with any significant detail. So I cannot see what you are talikng about. Perhaps, your coordinates are not correct. You suggested that the object appears only in infrared?
