Re: Flocculent Spiral Galaxy (2016 Nov 20)

When I first saw flocculent, an oddly rarely seen word, I thought instead of flatulent. That's just my brain making associations, but, lo! and behold! the description says that in this and similar galxies, dark matter must be holding a lot of orbiting stars and gas together to keep them from being t...

Re: APOD: A Crumbling Layered Butte on Mars (2016 Oct 05)

There may be clues to how Mars changed to a dry, barren, rusted landscape in the Bisti/De Na Zin Wilderness of New Mexico. This is an amazing photo. It has a depth to it that draws me in. I feel like I'm having an x-ray view inside a solid object, but in 3-D. I want to go inside and look around.

Re: APOD: Dark Craters and Bright Spots on... (2015 Feb 18)

Reflection of light on crushed crystalline rock mixed with soil, possibly the result of the impact of a crystalline meteor, or of a meteor on a crystalline deposit. I suspect the brightness may disappear on closer examination, and that only on-site examination of the soil in those areas will reveal ...

Voynich Manuscrit

I would agree with the poster who says it is probably a medicinal, plant and root manual. The illustrations seem more artistic than necessarily factual, possibly combining views of the sky at different times of the year. Early peoples used celestral objects as guides for planting. Of course, an arti...
