I wasn't necessarily saying that it couldn't be changed with gravity, which is definitely true. It's simply that time itself cannot be compared to the other three spacial dimensions.

Time in itself is not a medium. Spacetime is, however. The three dimensions of space can be considered as "tangible," although the fourth, time, is merely a measurement to gauge the three other dimensions. However, by saying that there is an actual speed of time, you are saying that a unit...

I've been to Monument Valley, and its limiting magnitude at night is one of the highest in the country (6.7), so I can imagine how even a slightly long exposure could produce a very bright image like the one being discussed.

I would definitely say that it is a moth, judging by its shape, but what's this? http://nightskylive.net/sd/sd050401/sd050401ut120130a.jpg It seems moth-shaped, but it's not actually an object on the lens unless it's transluscent. Cerro Pachon glint

Something very strange popped up on a Cerro Pachon image at 4:32 am UT on the morning of April 2: http://nightskylive.net/cp/cp050402/cp050402ut043201a.jpg It's not an Iridium flare or a satellite pass (according to Heavens Above). Note how distinct and extremely bright the streak is. Meteors, even ...

Face artistry?

Throughout art history, the drawing of human characteristics (such as faces) changed dramatically. If you look at the face on the Voynich Manuscript, you'll see that it's very unrealistic. This may suggest that - if drawn by a professional - the manuscript could've been made at some time between the...

What is this black thing?

A "black beast" (quoting Boldra) made an appearance on the Siding Spring concam on Saturday the 19th. Here it is: http://nightskylive.net/sd/sd050319/sd050319ut174033a.jpg What is this? It seems to move slowly throughout the night, as seen in the movie. It looks like the shadow of somethin...

The 3/14/05 APOD and a multitude of other images have made me wonder: What makes so many nebulae red?

Does anyone know?

Very interesting, makc. Indeed, the Death Star from "Star Wars" was modeled after Mimas. I read this on a daily astronomy calendar that I had a few years ago.

Unidentified streak on NSL image

I was searching the NSL image archive for Haleakala when I came across this strange image: http://nightskylive.net/hl/hl040911/hl040911ut074117a.jpg Notice the streak - which looks like a satellite streak - going along from north to east near the edge of the image. Messy English or Latin?

I am thinking that the manuscript may be written in a decipherable language such as English or Latin, but in a messy or varied form. You can make out a few English letters, like a, c, e, d, and g. Also, some words that look like "and", "God", and "sun" can be seen. The ...

A color concam?

Maybe for the new concam-3 in development, you could make the camera images in color instead of black and white. This way, you could see the different colors of the stars and other phenomena in the sky, like auroras. I think it would also help determine what the occasional U.F.O. is in the concam im...

Reflection, refraction, or something else? (UPDATED)

I was looking at the Haleakala concam when I noticed multiple strange streaks of light near the center of the image. It looks like something on the lens of the camera may be catching the light and refracting it, but I'm no camera expert. http://nightskylive.net/hl/hl050107/hl050107ut133606a.jpg Plea...

Siding Spring shut-down?

:?: I am not an expert at determining the problems with concams, so I am asking - what has been going on with the Siding Spring concam? The images that I have looked at seem to be negative images and/or are washed out. Also, the camera seems to have completely shut down on the night of December 30, ...
