Make sure you click on the main image in order to see the entire panorama. The image on the page is just a crop of the central part. The link is simply to a page that explains how natural colors on Mars are determined.

"Far right" in the description is the far right of the APOD image itself, which is a panorama. If you scroll it to the far right you'll see the "bright outcrop" that is referred to. The page linked to after that is where you can read about the natural colour of the scene on Mars.

I noticed the markings on the tan soil; (rock) what looks like trails! :? Notice the curvature of these? Seems like cracks of fissures would run more straight of jagged! From swirling water; maybe?

I'm glad the apod editors are remembering Opportunity's anniversary today (although we should note that this is Opportunity's ninth anniversary in terms of Earth-years; it's been on Mars less than five Mars-years). Congratulations to the ground crew who have been living on Mars time, staying up 40 Earth-minutes later every day.
