Rapid Fire Bursts
An active region shot out a number of small flares and bursts that led up to one larger eruption in just one day (Aug. 7, 2012). The region, viewed here in extreme UV light by the STEREO Behind spacecraft, has now rotated around so that it is facing towards Earth. Abrupt changes in the magnetic field near the solar surface drive this activity.
