anyone noticed on May, 1st, the top of this rock fell off?

It's not an astronomy pic but it does fall under geology and perhaps planetary science. Besides, it is cool!

Those are great links, PitotHeat. I've been visiting the webcam site for a while now. It's neat to see how Mt. St. Helens changes from day to day, and sometimes hour to hour.
Thanks for including them! :)

EPOD "retaliates" by posting a pic of Mars from Spirit.

Exceedingly cool, but should have been on epod

Mt. St. Helens is very cool; before the latest eruption sequence restricted flights below 9000', I flew over it and even a little down into the crater a few times: spectacular (none of my pics turned out as well as the apod one).

Here is a lot more info on the mountain, including a fairly up-to-date webcam.

Aye a few more frames would have been nice... I guess they are all taken at the same time of day and it is seasonal variation we are seeing in the shadows ?

I watched the 2 sec. movie it was quite interesting. Wish it had a few more frames.

Hey, pretty bizarre structure. Cool photo!

And hey, it's an APOD that is close to where I live. Sort of. Yay, NW, w00t.

I found a cool gallery of photos from one of the series of small eruptions not long ago. It's how the mountain appears from my neck of the woods, Portland (roughly 60 miles from the mountain as the Nazgul flies).

Today's picture was awesome of the slab of rock building up in the crater of Mt. St. Helens. But it's not really an astronomy picture.
