I see what you mean about the shape of the bar, It appears to me to be an elongated hexagon. I would like to see an even deeper image of this galaxy as there also appreas to be some cloudy structure (faint starlight) that is likely associated with this galaxy and could stand to tripple it's apparent size.

The bar in NGC4449 looks like a helix, or a helicoidal structure. Have any galaxy specialists suggested this?
