If you look closely; many of the stars in that photo have a similar halo. I believe it may be an unusual lens effect.

This color enhanced infrared image of the double helix nebula

shows what I believe to be one of those forementioned "Super Giants" at the 4:00 position but I have to wonder, what is the halo of 12 points of light surrounding this huge star? (there is another at 6:00)
