Thackeray discover the Bok globules in IC 2948. It is Bart Bok who first first drew attention to such objects in 1947. So, yes, this dark region are Bok globules. (ref: http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/nebula/dark/2002/01/)

Right, I got that they are both most likely star-forming regions, but was curious whether there were multiple names for the same thing, or if they were slightly or majorly different.

This particular set of Bok globules were discovered by A.D. Thackeray. Wikipedia even pictures [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thackeray%27s_Globules]Thackeray's Globules[/url] in their discussion of [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bok_globule]Bok Globules[/url]. Another named Bok Globule is [url=http://www.daviddarling.info/encyclopedia/G/globule.html]Barnard 68[/url].

Today's APoD - IC 2948: The Running Chicken Nebula - found here:

mentions 'Thackeray's Globules'. Are these similar to 'Bok's Globules'? Or are any of these 'globules' so named for whomever discovers them? I haven't researched these 'globules', but will shortly. But anyone with info or knowledge on them, feel free to chime in.
