The white outcrops contain a high concentration of salts which removes all doubt water play a roll in their formation. The data is still being analyzed to determine how long and how deep the water pooled. some location suggest the water wasn't ever more than a few inches deep while examining crater wall, some locations show evidence of water being present over millions of years but may have only been evaporation pools.
