Thread thrashers don't add to a discussion, they mess up the entire forum making discussion impossible.

The question comes to mind, what are they afraid of, that maybe some positive forward thinking would achieve momentum?

Makc, I think you are doing fine as a moderator, BUT, there is definitely a CENSOR doing censorship!

Censorship is the lowest form of paranoia and fear.

No courtesy, no discussion, no reasoning, is that person a freaking dictator or what?

Yes I am angered. Who wouldn't be by now? And, rightfully indignant to boot!

Keeping the "New Topic" button outside threads (in the list of threads) might solve a lot of problems.

Very good question. I have never seen a bulletin board on which you can do this but that doesn't mean it can't be done, or hasn't been done in the past by someones hack.

Besides asking that here you might try starting a new "Asterisk BB Software" thread over at the Asterisk Cafe forum. It would be a good place for others to ask questions related to the bulletin board's operation.

You can also click on the Powered by phpBB link at the extreme bottom of any page. That will take you to the software maker's site and the Community link on their toolbar will take you to their forums where you will have access to a number of people knowlegeable about the bulletin board software as it is used everywhere, not just here at Asterisk.

Your question is a good one as I've sometimes wished I'd worded the title differently myself. I would think that the originator of a thread and, of course, the moderators could make good use of such a function.

I favour reducing the duplication of topics. However, such dupication is to be expected if an existing title is vague. Once started, can a thread title be "improved"?

Okay, what I am trying to say is that I am going away from my PC for 2 weeks. Having no other internet connection, I won't be able to play God here, so let's see how you people will or will not screw things up for 2 weeks without rule №5. Sort of ultimate test if you guys really need me doing this

Often it is easier to moderate from the "background" instead of logging in. Or, as I often do, I use several computers and most are not set to auto log on.

But, why are more moderators needed? The rules are simply stated at the top of the forum for all to see. It may be better to mention that posters should state clearly the APOD and give the link to it in their first post along with any other relevant links of their own research into their questions or comments. Just a suggestion. 8)

One aspect that keeps things interesting is that the age and education level of posters varies so greatly here.

Only one question about your moderation: why are you not logged in for about half of your posts? This seems to invite confusion.

BTW: you might want to check your signature. Don't you mean "Did I just lock your topic ..." or "Have I just locked your topic ..." ?
