Yes, it really is more to the SW. I guess it would've been better to say the view is roughly to the south, but it's definitely not looking exactly at 180 degrees.

In the next sentence it says " ... the South Celestial Pole lies just off the upper left edge ...", so apparantly they are two diffent things.

"The view looks to the south." But wouldn't it be southwest? If the view was due south, the pole (centre of the star trail circles) would be straight ahead.
