Happy New Year!

Shot the fireworks in my neighbourhood and the image includes the trails of the constellation Lion in the upper left corner - you can easily make out that B-class stars like Regulus with its fine blue colour, a hint that the surface temperature is far higher than that of our sun.

In the red circle you see the planetary nebula PN Ba 1

The Perseus Cluster of Galaxies

This image of the Perseus cluster of galaxies, also known as Abell 426, is centered on NGC 1275. NGC 1275 is a giant elliptical galaxy, which is a radio source and x-ray emitter. Abell 426 is part of the Pisces-Perseus supercluster, which contains over a thousand galaxies. The image is a total of 9 hrs exposure with a Takahashi CCA-250 f/5 astrograph and a QSI683wsg camera (Astrodon Gen2 filters) on a Paramount ME taken on the nights of 7 Nov, 3, 13 Dec 2018 in Mayhill, NM (18 x 1200 sec lights; 3 x 1200 sec R, G, and B at -20 degrees; 24 darks; 128 flats; 128 bias). Processed with PixInsight 1.8.5.1353 Ripley (x64).

A twisted Geminid meteor
This picture captured on the way to Mt.Siguniang scenery during the Geminid meteor shower.A Geminid meteor taking a twisting path just flies over The Youngest Girls's Peak which is higher than 6200 meters.No one is sure why meteor path becomes twisted,Juergen Rendtel guesses the reason could be the meteor is markedly non-spherical in shape, non-uniform in composition, or electrically charged. Non-uniform meteors, for example, may evaporate more on one side than another, causing a rotating meteor to wobble.

Some artificial spikes were placed to simulate Christmas balls.

Although it looks like a Christmas ornament here, Canopus (Alpha Carinae) is the second brightest star in the night sky and is, arguably, a candidate for the fabled Star of Bethlehem.
