Yes...but I was expecting a top dive down into it... but this was ok, as you see the transition, I guess.

As for the typo.... I blame SQUIRRELS... YES, Dark Matter Squirrels From Beyond Space and Time.... SCARY....

I'd guess the decision was taken to dive in just outside the red spot was taken so that the transition from white to red clouds could be show internally, showing that the spot has considerable depth.[/quote]

You are probably right...it was just not what I was expecting... still very interesting...

joke aside, and hoewer infuriating this mistake may be, this is fantastic, thanks.

What would have been much more interesting and revealing, to me personally, would have been an animation showing only the red component, with all others deleted. To see the shape of the storm under the clouds, without the clouds obscuring it all. I imagine it would look something like a tornado, but I'm sure there would be surprises and interesting differences. This was an underwhelming video. They might just as well have shown pure black under the surface.

This goes down to 225 km. Would the Sun's distant light really penetrate at such a depth?

It's hard to imagine the size of a storm system over twice that of Earth's diameter, and reaching down to over 300 K . I'm pretty sure that it originates from a heat source even deeper, yes somewhat like a mantle plume. Awesome animation, though you really don't grasp the true scale. I'm not sure mankind ever will be able to get that close to Jupiter, unless we develop technology that would overcome the deadly radiation field.

The temperature data from Juno makes the Great Red Spot look like a mantle plume...

Nice to see that when science writers err they write you're when they mean your. Pleasant change from constantly seeing commoners on social media write your when they mean you're.
