Reaching Out to Neighbors
This segment (Sept. 29 - Oct. 2, 2012) shows multiple connections between active regions as viewed in extreme ultraviolet light. Some of the brighter loops arc up and back to the same region and we see that here as well. However, many of those coronal loops extend their tenuous reach to other active regions quite clearly, with some of the field lines stretching at least 200,000 miles. The active regions are magnetic in nature, often leading to these multiple interconnections.
