Sister planet stands together with sister stars. Celebrate the sky.

nearby shining planet
passing distant young stars -
clear spring evening.

Most contemporary English language haiku does not adhere to strict meter.

a weekend passing
on APOD they penned haiku
as I slept deeply

***

jeweled heavens shine
spring's first promise a fortnight past
basking trees - awaken!

It has been cloudy where we live in central Idaho so we missed the early April conjunction. This photo of conjunction was back on March 24. Venus, Jupiter, Pleiades and the new moon.

Asterisk was started as the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) discussion forum. Reduce that to one word and you have what Asterisk is about. It's also in the header of every page.

Welcome aboard the Starship Asterisk*!

Do not confuse
A planet with a star
No way are they relations!

It's things like this
That really muddles people
Getting it right will help.

Venus happens to be
In line with the Pleiades
It's no big deal!

Stellar sapphires sit
in the hair of the lovely
Queen of the Planets.

You got me going, geckzilla! Starstuck, your meter is better than mine.

(it's 5-7-5, Ann. You can do better.)
Venus in the sky
You stand next to Pleiades.
The sisters love you.

Hey, I liked my first poem better!

I'm glad I'm on Earth.

Sorry about the meter.
