A classically beautiful APOD image. It's hard to say any more without using every superlative known.

Great job, Johannes!

There is a lot of points of light in the image. And if the Universe continues to accelerate outwards, some of those points are going dark someday for our descendants.

Yep, an awesome picture! It is amazing how stars have the power to move dust and gas in space. 8-)

Morbius was too close
to the problem.

The Krell had completed their project.

That big machine.

No instrumentalities.

True creation.

Doc, let's have it.

- But the Krell forgot one thing.
- Yes, what?

Monsters, John.
Monsters from the Id.

The Id? What's that?

Talk, Doc.

Doc?

Actually that's -Monster of the ID-. Nicely lit-up by the force-field.

Judging from what Mr. Schedler says about light pollution in his area -
At 25 km distance the city of Graz with
250 000 inhabitants is a severe light source, you see its reflection to the thin clouds behind the hill.
Typical limiting magnitudes from 40 degree altitide:
Mag 4.5 (at humid situations)
to Mag 5.5 (at high transparency).
At good transparency conditions the milky way is well visible. Most deep sky images have been aquired during periods of high transparency.
the resulting image is pretty awesome.

ETA: the link I was trying to put in isn't going to the correct page, hence the quotation. But if you decide to visit Mr. Schedler's webpage, just click on the "Observatory" button on the left side, and there you'll see an article titled, "Light Pollution Situation", which is where the quote is taken from.

This is a very beautiful APOD. I particularly like how the image seems to show that we are looking through a hole blown by slightly older, energetic stars. Note the pink "rim" that seems ot outline the "hole". Admittedly this "rim" may be outflows from one or two hidden sources - two unborn stars - seen pretty much smack in the middle of the picture. These baby stars are throwing particularly violent tantrums.

What a fascinating picture this is!

And so suppose there is a Heaven.
Might it be here in Cepheus?

Image Young Suns of NGC 7129

Explanation: Young suns still lie within dusty NGC 7129, some 3,000 light-years away toward the royal constellation Cepheus. While these stars are at a relatively tender age, only a few million years old, it is likely that our own Sun formed in a similar stellar nursery some five billion years ago. Most noticeable in the sharp image are the lovely bluish dust clouds that reflect the youthful starlight. But the compact, deep red crescent shapes are also markers of energetic, young stellar objects. Known as Herbig-Haro objects, their shape and color is characteristic of glowing hydrogen gas shocked by jets streaming away from newborn stars. Paler, extended filaments of reddish emission mingling with the bluish clouds are caused by dust grains effectively converting the invisible ultraviolet starlight to visible red light through photoluminesence. Ultimately the natal gas and dust in the region will be dispersed, the stars drifting apart as the loose cluster orbits the center of the Galaxy. At the estimated distance of NGC 7129, this telescopic view spans about 40 light-years.
