Thanks, Mario! That's interesting to know. Both the moons and the spot! :D

Hi Ann,

thanks for your feedback! :-)

Yes, the first moon is Ganymede, then Io, (J), Callisto and Europa.
Well, I did not normalize the moons in brightness.
However, Europa has indeed the highest albedo of the four moons.
(Europa = 0.67, I = 0.63, G = 0.43, C = 0.22)

The egg-shaped spot is White Oval BA, which has a long history.
In the end of the 90ies, three smaller white ovals merged to form WO BA.
Those three ovals were observed since 1939!
So, the GRS is not the only long-lasting feature in Jupiter's atmosphere.

cheers

Mario

Mario Weigand, I'm so impressed with your Jupiter images! Tell me, in the wide-angle one, is it true that Ganymede is at far upper left? It looks bigger to me than the other moons, and it looks "striped" or "grooved", too. And is Io moderately close to Jupiter at left? It looks yellower to me than the other moons. And is Callisto at lower right of Jupiter? It looks sort of grayish and "dark", with a bit of white in it. And is that Europa at far lower right? It looks so white.

A splendid image! :D :D :D And the closeup of Jupiter is so beautiful, too. Tell me, what is that egg-shaped spot at Jupiter's lower right, which seems to be "outlined" with a fine dark line? Surely it can't be the Great Red Spot. The Great Red Spot should be inside the Southern Equatorial Band or whatever it is called, right? And it should also be redder, or at least a bit more orange, in color. Nevertheless, your spot is an interesting one! :D

Hi Ann and Owlice.

Thanks for your kind comments, I appreciate them very much :D

It inspires to make more photos, and maybe one day, one could be selected for APOD, that would be great.

Well, it's very nice to see you here, Jesper Grønne! :D I've seen some of your images posted at DMI, Denmark's Meteorological Institute. And this picture of yours is a very nice one! I like wide-angle images. The Andromeda galaxy looks splendid in your image - it just jumps out at you! So does the Double Cluster in Perseus. Emission nebulae IC 1805 and IC 1848 to the left of the Double cluster look good too, as does the North America Nebula. The California Nebula provides a wisp of pink in the twilight, and you have even managed to capture the Pleiades even though they are drowning in yellow light! That broken streak is a meteor, you say? Interesting.

Do come back here with more images! :D

You can see a powerful meteor sept. 1st. 2011 (the night of Alpha Aurigids) on a very clear night in Denmark, with great sight to the "the atmosphere" of the galaxy.
You can see a terrible light pollution from the nearby town of Silkeborg, but also objects like Plejades, Jupiter and California Nebula near the light dome.
Higher you can see objects like Andromeda, Northamerica Nebula and others.
It is a mosaic photo, 4 shots. Canon (astromodified) 5D II, EF24mm TS-e lens and a tripod.
Did not use any filters, motormount or other astro-gear. Exposure 30 sec. f/3,5 iso 2500.
