I only see 4 Canadian flags. It seems that the patch on the space suit's arm is a NASA emblem, not a US flag in this case.

The only ones I could identify as flags with any certainty whatsoever (and using some tricky image enhancements) are shown here:
Flags Seen in APOD Image
Flags Seen in APOD Image
I count that as 5 Canadian, 1 US, and 1 Japanese.

Contrary to some of the above posters, I could not find any flags on the foreground spacesuit. There are just not enough pixels in the one presumably on the shoulder to identify it.

Isn't that a German flag in that piece of equipment he is pushing?

There is no USA flag on the shoulder of the astronaut in the foreground.

There is another astronaut in the background in the blue area; all you see is the back of the EMU.

The flag is on the center top of the EMU.
wich blue area and yes there is a USA flag on the shoulder of the astronaut in the foreground.

but I still do not see the second astronaut please help me find him

PS i found the 4 Canadian flag
The second astronaut (see arrow) is most likely Ron Garan who was scheduled to accompany Fossum on the RRM move. I found another picture taken a slightly different time showing the 2nd astronaut has moved. The helmet and 2 temple lights are more visible, while the back of the EMU (and flag) is not.
APOD Picture, Ron Garan identified (arrowed)

Garan has moved, EMU not as visible

Good catch! I do believe it is another astronaut!

So, your total above would appear to be the answer.

HA ... now I see the flag on the shoulder of the astronaut in the foreground.

So ... that makes 4 Canada, 1 Japan, and 2 USA national flags.

I wonder if that's another Japanese flag on the module to the left: the dark circle on the white rectangle?
I think that is the NASA logo....

If we are counting emblems and organization affiliations as well there is also an ESA logo just the the left of the RRM box.

To those who found 7, are these they (SPOILER): busyastronaut_sts135_4256_flags_circled.jpg (241KB)? This is the full image (shrunk) with the flag locations circled. My previous post shows these circled flags in close-up.

Thanks for showing us!
Thanks for putting me out of my misery - the old 'mince pies' aren't what they used to be!
