David Kaplan, that is a lovely image, almost surreal.

Sunday morning in Switzerland. Moon and Venus rose toghether above the horizon. Followed closely by the still hidden sun. The sea of fog down in the valley is lit by the towns underneath.

Davide Manca and Leonardo Orazi, that's a very fine image of the IC 410 region. Your image brings out the cluster in the nebula very well. The largest of the "tadpoles" really does seem to have a star - make that two stars - inside it. And the dark, dark cloud could well hide more starbirth!

This page: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/0 ... piter.html contains some excellent images that should be considered for an APOD. In particular, the animated eruption of a IO volcano, seventh from the top.

This is one I have had trouble with because Aldeberanis so close so I have to have someone else use his telescope to capture it. it is a cool object and I did blend the H-Alpha into it but very little of it.

Used an E-210 F/3 with and ST-10 XME, Just RGB with a little HA mixed in.

M104 Wide and Closeup Images

Here's two images of M104 done in the last two weeks. One was taken with a TOA-130 refractor and the other with a AT RC10". I really love the symmetry of this galaxy!

Thanks for looking!

Ann,

Yes, it is indeed NGC 1514, aka the Crystal Ball Nebula (something it apparently resembles when viewed visually.) IMy apologies, I seem to have dropped the title on the cutting-room floor.

This planetary is unusual, in that it appears to envelop a tightly orbiting pair of stars, one a dying giant, the other an already more-or-less dead white dwarf. Tough luck for any planets in the neighborhood.

Best,

Bob

Well, thanks! I don't know what the object is, but I guess it is a planetary nebula. It sure looks nice and blue, so I like it! :D

Thanks! I think I'd have missed it entirely if I hadn't looked at the large version.
