That is sure a collection of beautiful images. Personally I got a particularly big kick out of the M17 images, since I so love massive star formation.

I sure hope Owlice took a look at number 17. What a Mars image! It would win first prize at an exhibition for abstract art.

As you're probably well aware, these lists come out every year. Last year was my first attempt at compiling one, but like a noob I thought I needed to wait until the end of the year to post it. That's too late it turns out. So this year I got the jump on putting one together. In the process of trying to organize it I hit on the idea of doing it in a google presentation doc. As a platform for displaying the images, there's some good and some bad (it's a big document so slow to load, but you can build depth into each slide, reorder them as needed, add late editions, etc). So while the list itself is solid (and still growing), the mode of presentation is such that I think it probably doesn't have the wide appeal I'd originally hoped for.

That said, I hope you enjoy it. It's still technically a work in progress, so let me know if I missed anything.

If you want a copy of your own to edit (or to serve as a foundation for your own Best of), I'm happy to share.
