APOD 11th B'day graphic

Thnx for the kind words above...

Although i might not normally go for something of this nature, Robert asked specifically for a collage and it was easy to make a great image out of so many incredible pix from APOD over the last year.
Sketched 3 different collages, but Robert went for the 1st one i sent, so the others will probably never see the light of solar orbit :)

There's some digital painting, but mainly lots of layer-work and blending.
Was a real pleasure to do, just to show support for one of my favourite sites on the web!!!

To all who sent me emails, thnx very much for all the kind words, but credit where credit's due...a huge thank you to all the amazing efforts of APOD and it's many contributors!!!

That's great work Davenash!!!
What progam did you use to compile the shots so seemlessly?
I'd like to have a shot at doing this too.

No, I used only my own photos!

And you're right about the telescope, I wasn't very careful when cutting it out...I don't have the patience :)

Nice work :) my only criticism is that the telescope bottom looks too cut away. Did you also use only APODs?

I was inspired by APOD to create my own montage:

All my own work :D

This image makes me wonder. If you were standing on Mars, What would Jupiter and Saturn look like from that vantage point?

Could you make out any banding on Jupiter? Or would it only appear as an unusually bright star during its closest approach?

Would you be able to tell, by unaided viewing, that Saturn has rings?

Did anyone take a photo of their passing that shows Saturn with visible rings and Mars in the same picture? They appeared to be close enough just a couple days ago.

Happy Birthday Apod!
And thank you for the grand colage depicting so many great things featured for us all on APOD.
This graphic is beautifull!

I too wake up each day to APOD pictures that take my breath away. How fortunate we all are that you so generously share these with us. And how much fun that you are gracefully flexible in your interpretation of astronomy - I love the variety, I've even gotten my sewing group hooked on this site thanks to the astronomy quilt posted some time back. After years of living under cloudless dark skies I now live in a place where my own observing in limited by bad weather or urban light pollution so I am doubly thankful that you are there to continue to show me the marvels of the heavens when I can't visit them myself. Happy Birthday APOD!

Congrats and Thanks

Happy Birthday indeed!

I never miss a day. If I have to, I backtrack through what I missed.

My day wouldn't seem complete with my evening "fix."

Thanks for so many years :-)

Yes, Happy Birthday to the great team that puts the site together, day after day. I'm a long time fan, and find you are running a truly classic site. Don't ever change!

Happy birthday APOD. Keep up the good work.

by wixer » Fri Jun 16, 2006 1:21 pm

Yes, Happy Birthday APOD. I've enjoyed the pictures since 1997 (when I got my first computer). As for repeats, some of us with senior minds probably forgot seeing anything for a second time...and even if we do remember, how lovely to see something the second time around :!:

by Indigo_Sunrise » Fri Jun 16, 2006 11:07 am

APoD's been my home page for almost four years now, and everyday it's another interesting image! Keep up all the great work!! :D
And happy 11th!

Hi all :-)

Congratulations to APOD. APOD's great and I've seen seen all of the nice pictures published in the eleven years.

I have only one main gripe with APOD's website: there's no way to know when the picture shown is a new one or a previously published one. Right? Consider this a feature request!! :-) What do others think?

Cheers,

Alex
