Happy birthday APOD. 15 is a maturing age for any human endeavour, on the internet an amazing achievement. We as a species are unique in many ways, and being able to step out from our daily activities and wonder at the world at large is perhaps the most remarkable of all. We have the arts of literature, music & performances, and the sciences abstract & practical, but the awe of being able to look up and marvel is both the simplest of acts, and yet the most challenging. Our place in the universe is incomprehensibly small, yet that it is comprehensible is deeply satisfying. Astronomy is perhaps the only science where the keen amateur can have knowledge, or at least more than passing familiarity, with the professional and academic level of the subject. As such, APOD is a stunning testament to us and to the universe. So my very humble thank you to all involved.
